Ethiopia: Govt Bans Travel Abroad for Employment

The Ethiopian government has temporarily banned its citizens from traveling abroad for employment.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says the travel ban is aimed at curbing what it calls "the rising tide of abuse and exploitation" of migrants from the country.
It says the ban will remain until issues surrounding employment of Ethiopians abroad are addressed.
Tens of thousands of Ethiopians travel overseas each year in search of work. Rights groups say a majority who leave the country are females seeking domestic work in the Middle East.
Some end up being subjected to emotional and physical abuse as well as poor working conditions. Earlier this year, video surfaced reportedly showing an Ethiopian maid being abused in Lebanon. She later committed suicide.
Other Ethiopian migrants have died at sea, traveling on unsafe smuggling boats destined for Yemen or Italy.
The foreign affairs ministry says the government has suspended the licenses of foreign employment agencies as part of the new restrictions.

Boeing prepares to fix fire-damaged Ethiopian Dreamliner

Boeing is preparing to repair or rebuild the Ethiopian Airlines 787 Dreamliner that burned at Heathrow Airport July 12, and is building scaffolding around the aircraft to begin the work.
The aircraft builder and Ethiopian are being tight-lipped about the exact approach, for instance whether the carbon composite aircraft will be patched on the tarmac at Heathrow.
A second option would be to make the aircraft temporarily flyable, so it could be moved to an overhaul center, or to Boeing, for a more complete rebuild that would replace the entire damaged fuselage section.
“We don’t have any new information to share,” said Boeing spokesman Doug Alder in an email. “We’ll advise once everything is finalized on the approach we’ll be taking on the repair.”

Teachers in China given highest level of public respect

Teachers in China have the highest levels of public respect, according to an international study comparing their status in 21 countries.
Teachers in the UK were in 10th place in the global index which was compiled by the University of Sussex professor Peter Dolton.
The study was based on surveys of 1,000 adults in each of the countries.
This examined public attitudes to professional status, trust, pay and the desirability of teaching as a career.
The study confirmed the high status of teachers in China, where there is a strong cultural emphasis on the importance of education.
"Teachers are revered," says Prof Dolton.
A large majority of adults in China believed that students would respect their teachers - in contrast to most European countries where only a minority believed that students would show respect.

The Play-off games are the final lap of qualification for the 2014 Fifa World Cup.
Nigeria will face Ethiopia in the first-leg on October 13 in Addis Ababa, while the second leg is billed to take place on November 16 at the U. J. Esuene Stadium in Calabar.

Ethiopia, as country, has a very long history, even if a large proportion of it is arguable. The society evolved through multifaceted ups and downs.
