Ethiopia: PM Hailemariam Inaugurates Ashegoda Wind Farm

 All future power projects of Ethiopia will be based on renewable energy sources, Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn has said. The Premier made the remark on Saturday while inaugurating the Ashegoda Wind Farm which has a generating capacity of 120MW.
The project, which is located10 km from Mekelle, the capital city of the Tigray regional state, was launched in October 2008. Hailemariam took the opportunity to pay homage to his predecessor Meles Zenawi whom he referred to as "Africa's green growth champion".

There no development without energy, Hailemariam said, adding, ensuring power supply is a key to achieve the national vision to join middle income countries. He thanked the French government for helping realize the Ashegoda Wind Farm.
Chief Executive Officer of the Ethiopian Electric Power Corporation (EEPCo), Mihret Debebe said besides contributing power to the national grid, the Ashegoda Wind Farm has facilitated technology transfer. French Ambassador to Ethiopia, Ms Brigitte Collet said the Ashegoda Wind Farm exemplifies Franco-Ethiopian friendship.
Ethiopia's leading role on climate change is highly appreciated, she said, adding, France will stand by the government in its endeavor to ensure economic and social development.
