Somali government forces and Ethiopian troops
clashed with al-Shabaab militants in Somalia's Bay region Thursday
(October 24th), Somalia's Garowe Online reported.
The fighting occurred between the Ufurow and Aw Diinle villages after Somali government forces attacked an al-Shabaab roadblock there. Officials said five soldiers sustained injuries and are being treated at Baidoa General Hospital.
Witnesses said ten people from both sides were killed in the clashes.
Somali government officials in the Bay region said their aim was to dislodge al-Shabaab from the strategic road connecting Bay to the border region of Gedo.
