Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn stressed
the need to produce human resource developed in science and technology
to build strong economy. The Premier made the remark on the 4th National
Science, Mathematics, Research and Innovation award held Sunday at the
Office of the Prime Minister.
After giving the awards to those who have registered outstanding results in science, mathematics as well as research and innovation, Hailemariam said human resource skilled in science and technology is crucial to build a strong economy.
The Premier said the government gives due attention to modern agriculture, information technology and green growth. The fact that these areas have been given 70 percent in the academic sector would contribute its share to the Growth and Transformation process, he said.
He also urged that researchers should be geared towards addressing tangible problems in their undertakings.
Science and Technology Minister, Demitu Hambissa for her part said the growth registered in the nation has a wide base with fair distribution of wealth. She stressed the need to uphold the renaissance process of the country with science and technology.
241 individuals out of whom 49 are women were awarded on the 4th National Science, Mathematics, Research and Innovation awarded. The awardees were comprised of 191 academic, 40 technical and vocational training centers, 4 researchers and 5 innovators.
The annual award aims at changing the misconception about science and mathematics subjects and producing problem solving researchers.
